Privacy Policy

1. Data We Do Not Collect
Nail Bite Beaver does not collect, transmit, or store any of the following:
- Personal information (name, email, address)
- Usage analytics or telemetry
- Camera images, video, or detection frames
- Crash reports
- Location data
- Browsing or app usage history
There are no analytics SDKs, no tracking pixels, and no third-party data collection of any kind embedded in the Nail Bite Beaver app.
2. On-Device Processing
Nail Bite Beaver uses your Mac’s camera to watch for nail-biting or hand-to-face movement. Detection runs entirely on your device with Apple’s Vision framework and a bundled on-device Core ML model.
Camera frames are processed in memory only. A few short preview frames may appear briefly in the on-screen overlay when the beaver catches you — then they are discarded. This data never leaves your Mac and is not written to disk.
3. Local Storage
Nail Bite Beaver stores a small amount of data locally on your Mac:
- Preferences — Things like whether you have finished onboarding, kept in macOS UserDefaults.
- Lifecycle logs — Simple text timestamps used to understand clean exits and recover from interrupted launches. These stay in the app’s Application Support folder and are never uploaded.
No photos, video, or camera frames are saved.
4. Network Requests
Nail Bite Beaver makes exactly two types of network requests:
- License validation — When you activate your license key, Nail Bite Beaver sends your license key (and an instance name such as your Mac’s hostname) to Lemon Squeezy’s API for activation and periodic revalidation. Camera data and detection results are never included.
- Update checks — Direct downloads use Sparkle, a standard open-source macOS update framework, to check for new versions from our update feed. This may send your macOS version and app version. App Store builds do not use Sparkle.
That’s it. No other network requests are made by the app.
5. Hardware Access
Nail Bite Beaver accesses the following on your Mac:
- Camera — To detect nail-biting and hand-to-face movement on-device. macOS will prompt you for camera permission the first time. No video is recorded and no frames are uploaded.
Nail Bite Beaver does not access your microphone, location, contacts, photos library, calendar, Bluetooth, USB devices, or accessibility features.
6. Third-Party Services
- Lemon Squeezy — Payment processing and license key management. Purchases and refunds are handled by Lemon Squeezy. SeeLemon Squeezy’s privacy policy.
- Sparkle — Open-source update framework used by direct downloads. No data is shared with third parties through Sparkle beyond what is needed to check for and download updates from our own feed.
7. Camera & Detection in Detail
Here’s exactly what happens with camera data:
- Processed on your Mac only. Face landmarks, hand pose, and object detection run locally. Nothing is sent to a remote model or server for analysis.
- Not stored. Frames are not written to disk, not added to Photos, and not backed up by the app.
- Never sent to us. There is no upload path for camera frames, screenshots, or detection results.
- No biometric profiling. Nail Bite Beaver does not build an identity profile, run face recognition against a database, or share biometric templates. Vision runs only to spot nail-biting / hand-to-face behavior in the moment.
- You control access. Revoke camera permission anytime in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera. Without permission, monitoring cannot run.
8. Children's Privacy
Nail Bite Beaver does not knowingly collect personal information from children. The app is not directed at children under 13, and camera detection data stays on-device.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. Continued use of Nail Bite Beaver after changes constitutes acceptance.
